10 Facts You Didn’t Know About Lizzo

Lizzo was born in Detroit, Michigan, and lived there for the first 10 years of her life before moving to Houston, Texas. 


Lizzo’s real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson. Although her first nickname was Lissa, when she was in middle school, she changed it to Lizzo after hearing the song “Izzo” by Jay-Z.


She ain't just a pretty face! Lizzo is a classically trained musician, having studied at the University of Houston and specialising in playing the flute.


When Lizzo was 21, her father passed away. She told Teen Vogue that his passing was the lowest point in her life but that it ultimately inspired her journey to self-love.


Lizzo released her first solo song, “Batches and Cookies,” with longtime friend and frequent collaborator Sophia Eris.


Lizzo got together with the legendary Prince back in 2014 for his album 'Plectrumelectrum', featuring on his song 'Boytrouble'.


At the age of 24, Lizzo experienced homelessness. She told NPR that she still considered herself lucky during the time.


X-Ambassadors, best known for their alternative rock hits “Unsteady” and “Renegades,” helped produce Lizzo’s album Cuz I Love You.


Lizzo dropped by KISS HQ in November 2019 to discuss THAT moment Lizzo realised that Jay-Z and Beyoncé were fans of hers.


In addition to promoting her philosophy of self-love, she has also been very outspoken about body positivity and the rights of the LGBTQ+, Trans, and Black Lives Matter communities.
