Gal Costa’s birth name was Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos.
Gal's father, Arnaldo Burgos, died when Gal was 15 years old and the two never met.
Gal Costa debuted at age 18 with the album Domingo, in 1965.
In 1967, she was awarded the trophy in the Best New Artist category at the first edition of the Brazilian Music Awards.
In 1968, Gal Costa won the São Paulo Association of Art Critics Award in the Best Female Singer category.
