23 अप्रैल, 1969 को बिहार के बेलवा गांव में जन्मे मनोज को अपने शुरुआती अभिनय के दिनों में वित्तीय संघर्षों का सामना करना पड़ा। नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ ड्रामा से शुरुआती अस्वीकृतियों के बावजूद, उन्होंने अभिनय प्रशिक्षण लिया और अंततः उद्योग में प्रवेश किया।
