एक समय की बात है, एक जंगल में एक गीदड़ तथा एक ऊँट रहते थे। वह घनिष्ठ मित्र थे। गीदड़ नदी के दूसरे किनारे पर जाकर मछलियाँ खाना चाहता था। लेकिन वह नदी पार करने में असमर्थ था।
वह ऊँट के पास गया तथा उसे बताया कि नदी के दूसरे किनारे पर गन्नों का एक अच्छा खेत है। गन्ने मीठे तथा रसदार हैं। आओ नदी के दूसरे किनारे पर चलें। ऊँट तुरन्त ही गीदड़ को नदी के उस पार अपनी पीठ पर ले जाने को तैयार हो गया।
तब ऊँट ने गीदड़ को अपनी पीठ पर बिठाकर नदी पार की। नदी के दूसरे किनारे पर पहुँचकर गीदड़ उछलकर नीचे आया और मछलियाँ तथा मेंढक खाना शुरू कर दिया। ऊँट गन्ने खाने के लिये गन्ने के खेत में चला गया।

गीदड़ ने खाना जल्दी समाप्त किया और वह खेत के चारों ओर तेजी से दौड़ने लगा तथा जोर से आवाजें करने लगा। ग्रामीण भागकर वहाँ आये तथा ऊँट को डंडों से मारने लगे। ऊँट नदी की तरफ भागा। गीदड़ उसकी पीठ पर कूदकर चढ़ गया।
ऊँट ने गीदड़ से पूछा, “तुम क्यों चिल्लाये?” गीदड़ ने उत्तर दिया, “मैं अच्छा भोजन करने के पश्चात, गाना पसन्द करता हूँ।”
ऊँट, गीदड़ को एक सबक सिखाना चाहता था। इसलिये, नदी के बीच में जाने पर वह लोटपोट होने लगा। गीदड़ ने पूछा, “तुम पानी में लोटपोट हो रहे हो?”
ऊँट ने उत्तर दिया, “अच्छे भोजन के बाद, मैं इसी तरह नदी में लोटपोट होना पसन्द करता हूँ।” गीदड़ को उचित सबक मिल गया था और वह पानी में डूब गया।

The Camel And The Jackal Story In English
Once upon a time, there lived a camel and a Jackal in a forest. They were fast friends. The jackal wanted to go to the other side of the river to eat the fishes there.
But he was unable to cross the river. He went to the camel and told him that there is a good of sugar canes on the other side of the river.
The sugar canes are sweet and juicy, Let us go to the other side of the river. The camel at once agreed to carry the jackal across the river on his back.

The camel then took the Jackal on his back and crossed the river. On reaching the other bank, the jackal jumped down and began to eat the fishes and frog.

The villagers rushed there and beat the camel with sticks. The camel rushed to the river. The jackal jumped on his back.
